The team had a few
changes from the
previous week most
noticeably missing a
star performer in
Russel Arnold. Lions
who are never short
of talent had their
Captain Silmi who
returned after a
long layoff from a
knee injury step in.
Lions lost their 1st
wicket in when the
score was just 16
and Chaminda
occupying his usual
no. 3 slot, joined a
determine Renchun at
the crease. Both
soon got in to their
groove straight and
started dominating
the bowling with
ease. Chaminda
completed a well
made hundred (108),
his 2nd
for the season in
only 81 balls
showing all the
class and talent he
possesses. He
dispatched the
bowling to all
corners of the
ground. Renchun
also played a
matured innings
scoring and
excellent 83 and
supporting Chaminda
all the way by
putting up a massive
182 run partnership.
The Cougars tried
all the bowlers at
their disposal to
try and dislodge
this formidable
pair. Renchun who is
coming back to the
game after a long
break of several
years has already
put in some truly
remarkable
performances this
year.
Lions were showing
no mercy on SCC and
were on course to
breaking their
previous record
score of 350 which
was set just the
previous week. Two
talented players in
Sanjaya and Supun
continued where
Chaminda left off by
scoring runs at a
rapid pace. Sanjaya
completed a fine
half century and got
out in the
penultimate over for
68 which came off
just 42 balls. At
the end of their 50
overs Lions made a
record score of 366
for 7. The entire
inning was a treat
to watch and they
were on their way to
rewriting Singapore
cricket history in
just their first
season in Division
1.
The SCC innings
started with the
loss of early
wickets with most
batsmen not
comfortable against
the pace of Mizran
and accuracy of
Snehath who both
picked up wickets.
Mizran completed a
fiery spell of 10
overs an accounted
for 4 batsmen for
just 30 runs. He was
well supported by
Supun who took 2 for
27. The Lions
bundled out SCC for
just 135 in 36.3
overs
comprehensively
winning this
encounter chalking
up another 10
points.
